| Dr. D’Souza received her B.A. (Biology) from Swarthmore College in 1996. In 1999, she was awarded a Masters in Science degree (Cellular and Molecular Biology) from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Further graduate education includes her M.P.H. degree (Disease Control) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and a Ph.D. degree (Infectious Disease Epidemiology) from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in July 2006. Her public health experience is extensive and comprehensive, covering teaching, lecturing, administration, management, and analysis. Dr. D’Souza’s resume includes several honors during her academic career including a STI Training Grant from NIH, 2003-2005. She served as: an Associate Outreach Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin from 1999 to 2000; Senior Epidemiologist at the Houston Department of Health, Bureau of Epidemiology and Bureau of STD/HIV from 2000 to 2002; and was a Project Manager at Johns Hopkins Medical Oncology from 2003-2006.
Dr. D’Souza’s primary interest is in viral oncogenesis, especially the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and co-factors for their persistence and progression. Dr. D’Souza joined the STATEPI team in August 2006. As an Assistant Professor, she works closely with the Principal Investigators and other faculty and staff members of the data coordinating centers of the MACS (Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study) and WIHS (Women’s Interagency HIV Study) initiatives.
