Barry Merriman, M.A.

Senior Statistical Programmer/Analyst


Mr. Merriman received his BA (Economics and Statistics, 1992) and MA (Statistics, 1993) from University College Dublin, in Ireland. He completed the Graduate Summer Program in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 1997, and has been a doctoral student in Epidemiology since September 2002. From 1993 to 1999, he gained experience as a consultant statistician, lecturer, and researcher, primarily at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland. He served as a Health Data Analyst for Westat in Rockville, Maryland, from January 1999 to March 2001. He taught courses in Ecuador, Uruguay and Argentina. In April 2001 he joined the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Center for Childhood Asthma at the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Merriman has contributed to seventeen articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has published numerous abstracts and presentations for scientific conferences. He became part of the STATEPI team in April 2006, and will be working closely here with Dr. Gange on the NA ACCORD research initiative.
